Summer Road Trip
Summer Road Trip
Summer 2024 – We arrived in Brussels in June and we are here to stay for two years! Jacob just graduated from High School and would soon be starting college in London for his First Year Abroad program. That meant this could possibly be his last full summer with us. There are still a lot of places we want to visit as a family, and we were eager to get our travel started. Towards the end of June, we embarked on an 18-day European road trip. The vessel was a Kia Telluride – because we didn’t take our own advice and brought another big SUV to Europe. I had planned this road trip for weeks and I had it all mapped out. But wouldn’t you know… we made changes at the last minute. By now we have gotten good at shuffling things around to make things work. We still make remarkable memories!
Places We Visited
The Castles on the Rhine
There are many castles along the banks of the Rhine River. We visited two this summer while staying in Saint Goar.
Saint Goar
Schloss Reinfels
Schloss Reinfestein
Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Germany
The medieval town of Rothenburg ob der Tauber is one of the best kept fortifications in all of Europe. With its ramparts still in place it takes you back in time.
Bavaria, Germany
Munich
Neuscheanstein
Hohenscheangau Castle
Venice, Italy
Cavallino
Stayed at a beachside resort in Cavallino for 3 nights. Noting like the sea and sun to recharge you.
Rome, Italy
There is nothing like ancient Rome. It is a History Lover’s delight with endless monuments everywhere you turn. It is no wonder it is called the “Eternal City”
Pisa, Italy (for lunch)
We made a pit-stop in Pisa the way north from Rome to the Cinque Terre.
Cinque Terre, Italy
Just south of Genoa and north of Pisa, this string towns, known as the Cinque Terre sit on the rugged coastline of the Italian Riviera above the Ligurian Sea. Gorgeous and vibrant, they date back to medieval times. Hike from one to the next as you take in the breathtaking views.
Monterosso
Vernazza
Manarola
Lugano, Switzerland
